RUDOLF LANE
Lane was a painter and one of Doctor Emil Hartman's patients at the Cauldron Lake Lodge, who had the paranatural ability to see past, present and future events, which he would "record" in his paintings. Unbeknownst to Lane, Hartman was only using him for his experiments to study the power of Cauldron Lake.
More than a decade later, Rudolph again become a test subject for the Federal Bureau of Control's attempts to create a link with the Dark Place. Due to the inhumane treatment he received during this period, he would end up committing suicide. However, before his death, he painted a "self-portrait" that would later gain sentience.

THE PAINTED
In Alan Wake 2: The Lake House expansion, players encounter a new adversary known as "The Painted." These enemies are deeply integrated into the DLC's themes, particularly the supernatural properties of paint within the Lake House facility. They possess the ability to emerge from human-shaped paintings on walls, materializing unexpectedly to attack the protagonist, Agent Kiran Estevez.

MARMONTS
Diana and Jules Marmont had once been a team. Rising stars in the Bureau. Both talented in their own way. Diana innovated and Jules got funding from the bureaucrats. Cooperation led to respect. Connection.
Then, after a decade of hard work, the happy couple were promoted. Co-Heads of Research.
Their first years at the Lake House were good. Challenging, but not insurmountable. Not for them. Gradually, thoughts fell into their heads like drops of dark water.
"Why does she get all the credit?"
"Why does he get any credit?"
With that, a crack formed in the Lake House. The Marmonts and their work became arrogant, erratic. The crack widened and the water seeped in.
There's a crack in The Lake House.
The Marmonts had let the lake in... but the water could not flow.
It became trapped, stagnant.
The pressure kept building, looking for release.
